The Awakening Story, TVB's highlighted drama in 2001 and that year's anniversary drama, features the most popular artists over the years, among them Liza Wang and her old partner in many TV dramas in the 80s, Damian Lau. Together with the young but experienced Louisa So, they demonstrate a complicated triangular relationship. Maggie Cheung Ho Yee, who looks like Liza Wang reportedly, and Yeung Yi, known as the "e;clone"e; of Maggie Cheung, play Liza Wang's two daughters in this drama, making the family even more realistic. The strong cast also includes Joe Ma, male lead in many later TVB dramas, and Myolie Wu, now one of the most popular TVB actresses.

The Awakening Story revolves around a young mother (Liza Wang) who was in coma for 16 years after a traffic accident. When she finally regains consciousness, her children have already grown up and she herself is no longer a young lady but a mature woman. Everything is so familiar yet distant, she has to adapt to the new environment all over again. The gap between her and her closest ones confuses her a lot. Coping with her family members and the changing environment again is a real difficult task for her. This story touches the hearts of all viewers and is well loved by all. Liza Wang and Maggie Cheung shared the "e;Favorite Drama Character"e; award in TVB's 2001 Anniversary Show, and Liza Wang was also crowned the "e;Favorite Actress of the Year"e; for her excellent performance.
