The Black Lizard (Hong Kong Version)

Known to younger generation Hong Kong people as a TV actor, Chor Yuen was actually a prolific director from the late 1950s to 1970s. Inspired by his father Cheung Wood Yau, famous Hong Kong actor, Chor Yuen dabbled into the film industry in 1956 as a scriptwriter. He started directing in 1958, and became reputable in both the Cantonese and Mandarin film worlds. Swordplay novels always provided exciting stories for him to adapt into thrilling films. The Black Lizard, one of such examples, incorporates detective film elements into a period swordplay film and creates a uniquely thrilling cinematic experience. Starring Derek Yee, now a famous director (Protege), Ngok Wah, and Wang Rong, The Black Lizard unfolds a tragedy where an old servant's good intention of exchanging the babies of two families eventually leads to hatred and even murder.
