I have had the recent pleasure of coming into contact with Dave “Yigytugd” Smith over the past week. I must say that this guy has a gift for doing things with Asian pop music that I thought were not possible.

Why you make these mixes?
I love Asian music ever since I started watching my first Asian drama, “It Started with a Kiss”. From than I just got hocked on Asian culture even though I am American. I love all cultures and listen to a wide range of languages but Asian music just seems to be my favorite. I make mixes for Asian music because I started listening to Masa’s “J-Bootie – Volume 1″ about a year ago and just had to try my hand at it. A year later and here I am with success of more than I hoped for, my second mashup album, and room for improvement.

What do you hope to accomplish?
My accomplishments would just to be recognized for what I do within the Asian music community. I have succeeded in getting over 1,000 subscribers on YouTube which I still don’t believe myself. It would be nice to appear in a South Korean / Japanese newspaper / site. Apart from that, I would love to be a guest DJ at a club to help spread my mixes and other artist that mix Asian music. That would be amazing for me!

What music means to you?
Music means the world to me, literally. If it wasn’t for music I don’t think I would want to travel the world some day, be as cultural as I am now, or even have the friends that I have. Most of my friends are from many backgrounds and all enjoy the work and art of other ethnicity. I grew up in the ghetto (still live in it too) with listening to Rap / R&B music all the time but as soon as I tuned into Z100 (New York), it changed my point of view on music and that is the true start of my love for music.

“Edited Universe” is finally released on this Merry Christmas Day! For “Edited Universe” I wanted to go for a mashup album that can be listened to by anyone. With that in mind, I made sure to have tracks that range from Pop, R&B, Rap, Ballad, and Remix Mashups. I also wanted this album to apply to people who don’t listen to Asian music.
