TV personality Park Ji-yoon, who recently married her former fellow KBS presenter Choi Dong-suk after four years of romance, is also a certified baker. She started baking seriously early last year, when she was still very busy with her work. Having a profession that requires a lot of talking with minimal body movement, Park felt emotionally drained all the time, and baking relieved the stress and provided a balance in creative physical activity.
Learning to bake, Park says she started to take a greater interest in cooking in general. “It’s been several months since I got married, but due to our busy schedules, I don’t even remember the last time my husband and I had a meal together at home,” she admits. “It’s good that we still miss each other like we used to before we got married. When time allows, we plan to make a tour of great restaurants. Only those who have tasted a lot of great food can cook great food.”
But the baking certificate wasn’t the end. Park is continuing to learn more things like cake decoration and packaging bread and pastries. “Because I have a lot of curiosity, I have to do things that stimulate my curiosity,” she says. “Now that I can make bread, pie and cake, I want to learn how to decorate and wrap them beautifully. Recently, I also started learning general food styling, like how to set a table.”
She recently opened a franchise coffee shop in Itaewon. Upstairs, she is building her own baking studio. Once it is completed, she plans to bake there with likeminded people, invite specialists to give classes or teach her own. “Only people who cook can truly appreciate the joy you feel watching people happily eat the food you made,” she says. “Since I started baking, I’ve given cakes I made to friends as gift on their birthday or other occasions. It really makes me happy to see my cakes make them happy too, and that is what matters to me.”
