New Artist’s Music Needs Your Attention!

SACRAfice
If I am a fan of anything it is great music from an artist who isn’t pushed out of a cookie cutter and forced onto the general public from a major record label. We have far too much of that nonsense lately and we have forgotten what real music sounds like.
Much to my surprise I came across an aspiring Asian hip hop artist who goes by the name of SACRAfice. Like other aspiring artists, SACRAfice wants his name out there for people to notice the hard work and effort that he puts into his music… and we all know that many new artists are counted out even before they get a chance to shine.
This time I wanted to do something about it and let him tell his story to my readers and perhaps someone out there will see the talent that I do.
I was able to do a short interview with SACRAfice in order to see what makes this guy tick… you can see the interview below.
Kpop-Jpop: Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?
SACRAfice: I go by the name of SACRAfice, and I’m just an upcoming Asian-American artist from Sacramento, CA. I’m an English speaking, Korean-American recording artist born in Seoul, Korea, that came to the states as an infant. I was raised in a lower to middle class neighborhood in the Sacramento, CA. Surrounded by a blend of many ethnicities; I grew up in an environment full all types of cultural influences that directly & indirectly permeated into my music. I starting writing as a teenager but never made music until about two years ago. And after joining a local Sacramento group called PCM in 2008, I gained access to new quality production and network support. And within a span of about of a year, I finished my debut project “Boarding Pass”, which is like a prelude, or sampler to my album Foreign Exchange, due out 2010.

Kpop-Jpop: Why do you make your music?
SACRAfice: I make music for so many reasons.
I make music because it supplements so many aspects of my life. I get so much from creating, and implementing a vision.
I make music because i feel like Asian Americans deserve and need positive role models to see, but not necessarily look up to. I just want to represent another option.
I make music for people that are proud of whom there are… regardless of the good and bad.
I make music for the dreamers, and the underachievers, and anyone trying to better them selves.
I make music to sometimes take people away from life.
To be honest, I never imagined I’d become a recording artist. I was perfectly content being a fan. However, after listening to the music slowly dilute in content & skill over the years, I decided instead of complaining about it, I do something about it. Especially after seeing so many corny Asian rappers out there, I couldn’t take it.
Kpop-Jpop: What do you hope to accomplish?
SACRAfice: I want to be able to create a career out of this. I want to emulate careers like Talib Kweli, The Roots, Royce Da 5.9. Those artists are full time artists and respected in the underground and accepted in parts of mainstream media. I don’t want or expect to become a superstar but I hope that I have dual acceptance one day.
Kpop-Jpop: What does music mean to you?
SACRAfice: Music is an integral part of my life. It allows me to simultaneously fulfill so many areas of my life. It’s like the soundtrack to my personality. It allows my voice to be heard.
Music makes me feel relevant.
Kpop-Jpop: Where can people listen to your music?
SACRAfice: You can listen to my music and connect with me via MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/sacrafice916.

SACRAfice
Personally I think he hit the nail on the head. Rap music is not like it used to be. The true meaning of the art form has been lost and replaced by people who only rap about how rich and dangerous they are. I don’t care how rich anyone is and I certainly don’t want it thrown into my face every time I watch Much Music (MTV). I want some real hip hop and SACRAfice is a talented new artist that can provide it.
Hopefully he can one day join the ranks of South Korea’s Drunken Tiger and Japan’s Dabo and become one of the finer Asian hip hop artists in the market. Asian hip hop artists have been overlooked in North America primarily because there aren’t that many ones that make it in the limelight. Sadly… the ones that do are not all that great (in my opinion). If there are other artist’s like SACRAfice out there… this markit is missing something and needs to dig deep in orer to find it. Perhasps the best palce to start is the Indie scene.
JYP Entertainment take note of this guy!
I wish him the best of luck.
If you are interested in SACRAfice’s music and want to offer him a deal you can contact him through his MySpace page or you can contact me. I will relay the message to him.
