WonderGirls and JYP

The Wonder Girls are a five member girl group from South Korea and have risen to fame over the last couple years. They are currently on tour as the opening act for the US famed Jonas Brothers. On July 20 local time they appeared on the Fox network’s “The Wendy Williams Show,” a daytime talk TV program.

Before the group came on stage, Wendy Williams gave a short introduction to the crowd by calling them “the No. 1-viewed on YouTube,” and showed the audience her copy Wonder Girls CD, adding she was “very excited to have them here.”

The girls appeared on stage and sang the English version of their hit song “Nobody”  to an enthusiastically cheering crowd.

After their performance, they briefly chatted with Williams, who exclaimed, “That was fabulous!” and asked how to say hello in Korean (which she totally messed up).

The five girls introduced themselves as Sun, Mimi, Yubin, Yenny and Sohee. In Korea, Sun, Mimi, and Yenny go by their Korean names Sun-ye, Sun-mi and Ye-eun, respectively.

On the official Web site for the program, viewers posted comments congratulating the girls on the debut.

One commenter said, “The song was quite catchy and I loved the cute dance… I enjoyed it.” Another commented, “I loved the show … they’ve got a long way to go, but I see great potential in them.”

Kpop King Park Jin-young, the representative of the Wonder Girls’ management company JYP Entertainment, posted his thoughts on Twitter. “They’re amazing. They’re truly ‘wonder’ girls,” was his tweet.

Recently he also posted “We’re starting radio promotions,” he explained. “So please make a lot of requests to your local top 40 radio [stations] and Radio Disney.”

If any Korean group can make it big in North America I believe that they can. Lets face it, I am not hearing much from Boa these days and Rain’s concert tour was a complete bust. I believe these girls can do it, but not without the support from their fans in North America.
